Curriculum

At Penguin Crossing Academy, the child comes first. We take pride in not only providing for their physical and emotional needs, but for their developmental needs as well. Our curriculum was handpicked for its balance between both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning. It is our goal to help the children develop the passion for learning that they will carry with them throughout their life.

Penguin Crossing Academy uses Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies designed to foster social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development and to enhance learning in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.

It is based on five fundamental principles:

  1. Positive interactions and relationships with adults provide a critical foundation for successful learning
  2. Social-emotional competence is a significant factor in school success
  3. Constructive, purposeful play supports essential learning
  4. The physical environment affects the type and quality of learning interactions
  5. Teacher-family partnerships promote development and learning

This allows the teachers to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, content-rich program for children of all backgrounds and skill levels that is constantly matching the interests of the students. Please be sure to look for the weekly lesson plans hanging in the classrooms.

Age Groups

Infants

Infants

(6 weeks to 12 months)

Parents can rely on our loving, dedicated staff of infant care providers, chosen for their warmth and affectionate personalities. They provide nurturing, age-appropriate stimulation, and lots of love. Our Infant rooms are immaculate, colorful, and well-equipped with toys and equipment similar to what you have at home for your baby and our teachers sit comfortably on gliders while holding, cuddling, and feeding your little ones! Our teachers use tablets equipped with the Brightwheel app to send daily information, updates and pictures to parents and/or grandparents. This new program is a time-saver for all, putting a lot of information into one quick email-reducing extra papers going home each day! It is reassuring to parents when they see a picture of their child’s day, knowing they are safe and well-cared for.

Younger Toddlers

Younger Toddlers

(12 months to 24 months)

Our toddler rooms are designed to be self-contained, with a diaper changing station as well as child-sized potties to begin the potty-training experience. Since Toddlers learn through play and exploration, we give them the space, age-appropriate materials, and stimulation they need to help quench their thirst for exploration. Creative Curriculum gives our Toddlers valuable experiences to help them develop and learn. At this stage, we focus on eye-hand coordination, motor development and problem-solving. Just like in our infant classrooms, our toddler teachers use the Brightwheel program to communicate about each child’s day from the time they arrive up until they are picked up.

Older Toddlers

Older Toddlers

(Two’s)

With a focus on communication skills, emotional regulation, potty training, and fine motor skills, our older Toddler classroom helps the children meet the developmental milestones required to enter our preschool program. The Brightwheel program helps the toddler teachers track their development progress as they work to achieve these goals.

Preschool

Preschool

(Three’s and Four’s)

Our Preschool program uses Creative Curriculum designed with the children's interests in mind. They will meet developmental and social objectives as well as focus on the beginnings of Kindergarten readiness. We believe that how children learn is as important as what they learn; therefore, we implement an innovative and exciting Preschool curriculum.

Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten

(Three’s and Four’s)

Our Prek program uses Creative Curriculum to help each child meet (and perhaps exceed!) the readiness skills required for them to take the biggest step of their little lives - starting Kindergarten! The teachers will track development and tailor activities appropriately to make sure that every child gets the most out of each lesson.

Kinder Enrichment & School Age

Kinder Enrichment & School-Age

Our Kindergarten Enrichment program focuses on children who attend the local public Kindergarten program by offering an enhancement to their school program. Our school agers are the big brothers and sisters of our school! We provide plenty of activities, books and educational content to keep our school agers stimulated throughout their stay. We also offer a fun, action-packed, activities-rich summer camp program when school is out!
